Russia Warns South Korea Against Supplying Arms to Ukraine

Select Language

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova announced that Russia will respond strongly if South Korea joins the mechanism for providing weapons to Ukraine under the “Ukraine Preferred Needs List.” She noted that South Korea has previously clarified it would not participate in transferring arms and ammunition to Ukraine, a stance Russia appreciates as it aims to prevent further deterioration of Russia-South Korea relations. This position could serve as a foundation for future negotiations and cooperation between the two countries. Amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Western countries have imposed sanctions on Russia and supplied Ukraine with military aid, which Russia views as a threat to its security and labels as aggression. South Korea’s decision not to supply weapons to Ukraine is seen as an effort to maintain regional balance and avoid harming relations with Russia. Although South Korea’s stance is clear, Russia may continue issuing warnings due to increasing physical and financial support for Ukraine globally. This situation could impact regional security and diplomatic relations, compelling South Korea to maintain a balanced position within the international community. The tension adds complexity to the global political landscape, where nations strive to balance national interests with international responsibilities, and the nature of Russia-South Korea relations will continue to influence regional and global politics.
