Prison Conditions Highlighted in Samurai Wallet Developer’s Letter

Select Language

A recent letter from the developers of Samurai Wallet provides a detailed account of daily life and food conditions inside the US federal prison FPC Morgantown. The letter describes how inmates’ daily routines revolve around three main meals, which are characterized by food shortages, poor quality, and inconsistent portions. The first meal call, known as the “main line,” occurs at 6 a.m., but many inmates avoid the chow hall due to the low quality of breakfast, which often consists of repetitive items like “spice cake,” leading to monotony. Lunch frequently includes cold, substandard food, sometimes chicken fried rice, but often a small, spoiled hamburger. Dinner is unpredictable, with varying quantities and quality. The inadequate and poor-quality food has resulted in health problems for many inmates. Some prisoners try to supplement their diets by purchasing small amounts of safer food, but limited prison facilities make this difficult. The letter’s author emphasizes the need for fresh fruits, vegetables, higher protein intake, and better cooking facilities to improve inmates’ nutritional needs. They also call for a review of food supply and quality to enhance prisoners’ health. This letter sheds light on an overlooked aspect of prison life and urges collective efforts for improvement. A petition supporting the release of the Samurai Wallet developers has also been launched, seeking public backing.
