Select Language

Hyundai Group in South Korea was forced to evacuate employees from two major offices in Seoul following a bomb threat demanding payment of 13 bitcoins, approximately $1.1 million. The threat, received via email, warned of bomb explosions at Hyundai’s buildings in Yongi-dong, Jungno-gu, and Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, if the ransom was not paid. Police swiftly evacuated the premises and conducted thorough searches with bomb squads but found no explosives. Authorities later declared the threat false and resumed normal operations, confirming no payments were made and no casualties or damages occurred. This incident is part of a recent wave of similar digital blackmail threats targeting major South Korean companies like Samsung Electronics, Kakao, and Naver. Law enforcement continues investigations to identify those responsible, as such threats not only jeopardize company reputations but also endanger employee safety, prompting stricter security measures.
