Apple to Shift Mac Mini Production to the U.S.

Select Language

Apple Inc. has announced plans to relocate part of its Mac Mini desktop computer production from Asia to the United States. This move is part of Apple’s broader strategy to bring its extensive supply chain back to American soil. According to the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Sabih Khan, production will begin later this year at a Foxconn facility north of Houston, Texas. The site includes two main buildings: one currently assembling Apple’s artificial intelligence servers and another large warehouse that will be converted into approximately 220,000 square feet of space dedicated to Mac Mini manufacturing.

This decision follows Apple’s August announcement of a $600 billion investment in the U.S. over four years, with the Mac Mini production shift being a component of that commitment. The Mac Mini is considered a niche product with a global market share of less than five percent within Mac computers and under one percent of Apple’s total sales. Apple’s strategy reflects efforts to stabilize production amid global supply chain challenges and trade tensions by localizing manufacturing. This shift is expected to benefit the U.S. economy and improve production costs and timelines, though it may also bring technical and logistical challenges during the transition. Apple continues to enhance and localize its supply chain to maintain its strong position in the global technology market, with the Mac Mini production move serving as a significant step in this ongoing effort.
